Uraga is a well-known part of Guji that emerged from the privatisation of coffee in Ethiopia in 2017. This was when Asnake, a veteran in the Ethiopian coffee scene, founded his own company. Making use of his attention to detail and processing skills, he has built a vertical integrated business that delivers expressive and consistent coffees.

This coffee comes from a washing station called Uraga Yabitu, located in the town of Yabitu. Cherries are manually picked and delivered to the wet mill. Once hand-sorted, they are pulped with a traditional Agaarde disc pulper. The skin and fruit pulp are removed, and the coffee is sorted by density.

The coffee undergoes fermentation for 36 hours, and then washed in long grading channels. The lower density coffees will float and are removed, leaving the denser and higher quality beans. The coffee is then soaked for 2 hours, to homogenise, and further clean the parchment.

The coffee is then piled up in layers that are 2 cm in height, and dried over a 10 day period. Here, the coffee also undergoes another round of hand-sorting. The result is a coffee that is flavourful and expressive, with gentle tropical fruit notes followed by white florals, and a full bodied mouthfeel.
